Why We Celebrate
Simply put, we find nylon stockings to be both beautiful and fascinating. They are, at the same time, tremendously powerful and yet so delicate. So simple in function, yet produced using a highly complex manufacturing process.
Of course, their initial attraction is legendary. It is hard to dispute the sensual allure that legs adorned with nylon stockings create. Actresses, dancers, burlesque performers and everyday people continue to slide on their stockings to add a spice to their lives and the lives of others who are lucky enough to be treated to a glimpse of the welt. But they are so much more… Nylon stockings have a rich & complex history that tell a story of technology & design, industry titans, unions and workers rights, marketing & advertising and of course, the sex appeal… all set during the second phase of the industrial revolution and at a time of world war.
